As long as you keep secrets and suppress information, you are fundamentally at war with yourself. The critical issue is allowing yourself to know what you know. That takes an enormous amount of courage.
― Bessel van der Kolk, The Body Keeps the Score
You must always be yourself. It is the highest form of morality.
― Candy Darling
"On the Road to Find Out,” apart from being the title of a fifty-year-old Yussuf/Cat Stevens song, is an apt description of the psychotherapeutic process. In our weekly sessions you will be coming to a healing space, a place where you can examine closely both yourself and others. Therapeutic self-examination also constitutes a journey, a path to self-knowledge that will, as you grow in understanding and insight, better enable you to negotiate the hurdles and setbacks of ordinary life; set goals and achieve them; and give you tools with which to be more effective in your relationships with your loved ones, your work, your community, and the world at large.
We live in times of unprecedented change and stress: A global pandemic. Political polarization. Economic upheaval. Climate change. I am a friendly, approachable therapist who specializes in putting you at ease by offering a safe, supportive, relaxed environment where we can do our best work together. Whatever is troubling you ― anxiety, depression, relationships, sexuality, identity ― I offer insight borne of my personal experience, combined with a keen understanding of the social, political, and ecological contexts in which we all exist.
Our focus will be on building a healing relationship utilizing a psychodynamic approach that incorporates elements of Cognitive and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, as well as a deep empathy for your pain and personal struggle. In doing so, we will connect your past to the present while charting a course to your future ― a future that you, yourself, wish to see.
I emphasize skill-building as a necessary precursor to personal growth, something I find many clients have never had the opportunity to practice. On that scaffolding we will drape the fabric of your new life, enhancing your self-esteem, defeating the existential blues, and helping you make the most of your remaining time here on terra firma.
